Review: Thanos Rising # 1

Thanos Rising 1

Writer Jason Aaron with artist Simone Bianchi are telling the origin of Marvel’s demi-god of death and destruction in the mini-series “Thanos Rising”.

The first issue literally shows the birth of Thanos.  Thanos was born on Saturn’s moon Titan to the Eternals Mentor and Sui-San.  Unlike his brother Eros; Thanos is born with a genetic disorder that effect’s his appearance, giving him purple skin and dark eyes.

Issue one focuses on Thanos’ childhood, one would think that the other children of Titan would tease Thanos due to his appearance, but it’s quite the opposite. Thanos is accepted by his classmates, and hailed as the “smartest kid in school.”

Of course tragedy strikes Thanos’ life, and the reader begins to see the transformation from this happy child to the stone cold killer fans know him to be today.

Jason Aaron’s tone for the book is perfect.  The story has all the characteristics of a classic Greek tragedy with a Sci-Fi twist.  Simone Bianchi’s artwork is dark and twisted, a perfect fit for this series.
