Review: A+X # 5

Replacing the old comic “Marvel Team Up” is the book “A+X” released monthly under the Marvel Now! publishing initiative.  Each issue of this series features two 10 page stories featuring a team up between a member of the Avengers and a member of the X-Men.  This week saw the release of the fifth issue of the series, and was easily the best issue yet!

The first story by Kathryn Immonen and David LaFuente focused on the mad cap adventures of the Immortal Iron Fist, and Doop.

This story was a ton of fun!  It’s a zany adventure starring two of Marvel’s fan favorite obscure characters. Immonen and LaFuente never take themselves too seriously, leaving the reader with a rather humorous read.

The second story by Kieron Gillen and Joe Bennett was the series’ first team up of Avengers and X-Men villains.  The two scoundrels in question are Mr. Sinister, and the trickster Loki; brother to the Mighty Thor.

Gillen has worked extensively with both these characters in the pages of “Uncanny X-Men” and “Journey into Mystery”, and brings a solid voice and characterization to the two.  Sinister is looking to raid Victor Von Doom’s castle for genetic material and Loki wants to help.  Gillen writes these two together so well, that he leaves the reader desiring a new comic entitled; “The Sinister Loki”.
